Social experiment

Task
Clarify and predict the title of the video we will watch today: Social Experiment

Social means people interacting with other people and having a good time. Experiment means testing a theory and finding information to back up that theory. I guess that this video could be about someone going around and doing a survey and then making those results into a graph.

Write up this video using the Science Process.

Aim
To find out how people react to anonymous comments. √

Hypothesis
I think that people will react nicely to nice comments but badly to bad comments. √

Equipment & Method
A speaker
A person who speaks
Some random people
( passers-by) √
  1. Place the speaker on the side walk.
  2. When someone walks past the speaker say either a compliment or an insult.
  3. Do this for about half an hour and see how people react. √

Results (make these up)
Most of the people who received bad comments reacted really badly and it looked like they were really angry but with the nice comments it looked like that had brightened up their day. √

Conclusion
It doesn't matter if you can see the person or not they still react the same. √

Scam letters

Read this scam letter which I received on Thursday.

Summarise who this letter is from, who it is to, and what it is about.
This letter is from Mrs Emily Park.
This letter was sent to Miss Campbell (A receiver of the scam).
This letter is about people being tricked into giving people money for larger amounts of money.

What are 2 reasons you know that this letter is a scam.

This person gave her US$1,300,000.

They gave away all of their details including E-mails and phone numbers.

Give 3 pieces of evidence (excerpts of sentences) that prove that this letter is a scam.

This letter has been poorly translated from another language into english."please take it very serious." Another example"She said whoever is contacting us through emails are fake that I should fly down to Nigeria"

Describe a scam or prank you have heard about or been subject to.

Every now and then my family gets a phone call from "Microsoft" saying that our computer has a virus and we never listen. Sometimes we can get up to 15 calls in one night.

Mount Everest

Imagine this is you.Describe this scene. Describe
- what you smell
- what you hear
- what you  see
- how you feel

I feel cold and tired, I guess these are the downsides of climbing Mount Everest. I am now looking at the summit of this amazing mountain. It has been challenging but I love it and that is why I am doing this. All I can smell is cold air, all I can see  is the peak of this amazing mountain and I can hear some other people coming up behind me, They must of gotten an early start compared to me.  Its seven o’clock and I am hungry so I look through my bag and I find some porridge, So I cook that and that gives me an amazing boost so now I am ready for a days climbing.

  1. The Brazil burger
  2. The Argentina burger
  3. The France burger

Invisible soldier?

Clarify: Invisible soldier.
I predict that the word invisible means can't be seen or not very easily seen.I think that soldier means a fighter for a country or army.I think that invisible soldier means a soldier that cant be seen and the identity is unknown. There might also be some kind of invention that makes soldiers camouflage into there surroundings.
This is a level 5 response. You have clarified the words invisible and soldier separately and together using your own knowledge. Then you have put them together to predict what the video might be. Superb progress.

lyrics: mean, median, mode and range

Mode median mean and range.
Mode median mean and range.

Don't you think these these words sound strange.
Don't you think these these words sound strange.

I will get your mind to change.

Mode, mode mo mo mo mode mode is the number that occurs occurs the mo mo most most.
Mode, mode mo mo mo mode mode is the number that occurs occurs the mo mo most most.
Got a 1 2 2 3 3 3 4, 1 2 2 3 3 3 4.
Which of those numbers did I say more?
Which of those numbers did I say more?
3 is the mode cause it occurs the most.
Mode, mode mo mo mo mode mode is the number that occurs occurs the mo mo most most.
Mode, mode mo mo mo mode mode is the number that occurs occurs the mo mo most most.
Singing mode mode mo mo mo mode mode its the number that occurs the most most mo mo most.
Got a 1 2 2 3 3 3 4, 1 2 2 3 3 3 4.
Which of those numbers did I say more?
Which of those numbers did I say more?
3 is the mode cause it occurs the most.
now stop, let's take it to the middle.
Gotta find the median no time to daddle diddle.
line up all the numbers from the smallest to the big, and the one thats in the middle does the median shake.
Go median, middle number, Go median, middle number.
Now the third one's being not nice but mean, it's the average number if you know what I mean.
Just add up all the numbers and divide it by the number of adders, what's that, what's mean.
Just add up all the numbers and divide it by the number of adders, yeah you know what I mean
Just add up all the numbers and divide it by the number of adders, its the average number.
Mean its the average number, one more round and this song is done, let's talk about the range and have some fun.
It's the biggest number minus the smallest number, in the group, in the group.
It's the biggest number minus the smallest number, in the group, in the group.

Mode median mean and range.
Mode median mean and range.

Don't you think these these words sound strange.

Science behind a glowstick

What I think now (before we start)
I predict that when you snap a glow-stick there is one glass tube in the glow-stick that holds a different chemical and when those two chemicals mix they react and that is what makes the glow.

What I think now (after hearing others’ ideas)
I think that there is a glass tube and when that breaks the two chemicals mix to cause a reaction, a big clue is that you can probably hear the glass crack.

What I think now (after seeing Miss C cut open the tube)
My prediction was correct in that there was a glass tube and two chemicals that mix and react

What I think now (after researching)
It is a dye that colours the light stick. The two chemicals used in a glowstick are hydrogen peroxide and phenyl oxalate ester.

3 questions I still have

What is the future for glowsticks?

What is name of the reaction between the two chemicals called.

Can you make a glue stick at home?

Synthesis is when you have an idea and you then find out more?

Sampling

Yesterday in Maths we learned about sampling. Write about sampling. You should include
- what is a sample?
- why take a sample?
- what are some examples of sampling done in real life?
- what does the word ‘population’ mean?
- how can you tell if are you sampling the right population?
- yesterday you took a sample using one method of sampling, explain what you did and your findings
NO question headings. Write in a paragraphing style. Remember use examples.

A sample is when you take a part of a whole.
You take a sample because it is cheaper, safer, easier and it doesn't take as long.
Have you ever been stopped in a mall or public place to take a survey, that is random sampling.
For example if you are testing how many cars in your country have air bags you population is every car in the country.
If your are sampling if it is safe to bike to school you should ask parents, the children who bike to school and the children who car/bus to school.
This is a program to figure this out.
For my sampling yesterday I did how much students like our house run, we drew out of the hat to take a random sample. About just over half of the sample likes the run.

TIS Times

Journalist: What were your first impressions of TGS?
Bailey: I thought that this would be a challenge but then again i would get to travel the world and make new friends along the way.
Journalist: What was your favourite experience?
Bailey: Probably snorkelling in the Galapagos islands, it was absolutely amazing because we could see turtles and fish and I even saw a stingray, it was massive.
Journalist: Wow that must have been amazing, I wish I could go snorkelling in the Galapagos.
Bailey: Yeah it truly was amazing, we should go sometime.
Journalist: Haha, yeah. Did you ever miss your parents while on the trip?
Bailey: Yeah, but every couple of weeks we would Skype, but it was quite hard to get the timing correct.
Journalist: Yeah it would be. Was it hard to learn all of these different languages?
Bailey: No surprisingly not because most of our lessons were in english.
Journalist: Well you were lucky weren't you.
Bailey:Yeah, very.
Journalist: Alright we are going to have to finish up now, thank you for taking the time to interview us, you probably want to get back to your parents now aye.
Bailey:Yeah thank you.
